Stoke Seniors

A caring group of lay volunteers organises a comprehensive programme of lunches and other events throughout the year, providing a venue for the elderly and those living alone to meet and catch up with each other. Such lunches attract about 30 to about 60 senior members from across the parish.

A typical year’s programme of events includes one or more of the following:

  • lunches with a choice of menu options, using local commercial establishments, such as Emma’s.
  • an annual New Year’s luncheon in the Village Hall provided by professional caterers. Entertainment is sometimes provided by, for example a local string quartet and by children from the village school sharing their writings and music.
  • a soup & pancake lunch on Shrove Tuesday.
  • an annual outing for a Cream Tea, which one year was held at the Osborne Hotel in Torquay overlooking Meadfoot beach on a perfect September afternoon.

The lunch club is much more than about lunches! It enables the provision of informal pastoral care by telephone, by visits and other means. If you would like to come to one of these events, then please make contact with one of the volunteers.
